The perturbation is investigated produced by the oblateness of a giant planet (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or Neptune) acting on an orbiter around one of its large satellites. The perturbing force of the Jn-terms is expanded in an appropriate form in a double series of powers of a/p sub d and powers of t, and the variations of the orbital elements of the orbiter are derived. An example shows that the perturbation of the orbit cannot be neglected.
