It is shown that during partial counter electrojet (when the deviation of the H field from its value at 0000 LT is positive but less than that at a non-equatorial low latitude station), the scatter echos of VHF radio waves from the E-region of the ionosphere disappear. It is suggested that these events are due to simultaneous flow of eastward current near the peak ionization level of the E-region and the westward current at the base of the E-region.
