The author calls attention to the fact that recent interpretations (Gul'el'mi, 1973, 1974; Troitskaia et al., 1971) of the relationship between the period (T) of Pc 2-4 micropulsations and the absolute magnitude of the magnetic field of the solar wind (B-sw) in the neighborhood of the bow shock in terms of cyclotron instability arising before the bow shock, do not, in fact, conform with the experimental data presented. An alternative interpretation of the dependence of T on B-sw is proposed, which does not reject the magnetospheric origin of Pc 2-4 micropulsations, and is based on the idea that the micropulsation frequency depends to a significant degree on the Doppler shift as a source moves through crossed E and B fields. In this case, the Doppler shift is caused by the magnetospheric E x B drift.
