It has been shown that at large depths, where the mean energy of muons
amounts to a few GeV, the basic yield to muon background is due to the
development of nuclear cascades generated by muon-nucleus interaction.
In the present paper, a scheme for calculating nuclear cascades
generated by high-energy muons is outlined.
