The problem of wave heating is subdivided into three parts: generation, propagation, and dissipation. Particular attention is given to aspects of propagation, that is, the reflection of Alfven waves (a) at the transition region and (b) above sunspots. The wavelengths of those Alfven waves that are likely to be of importance in transferring energy are thought to be less than 100 km and hence close to the present limits of optical resolution on the sun.
