Geomagnetic Field: Secular Variations

A series of spherical harmonic analyses of the acceleration of the geomagnetic field are performed on the basis of equally accurate data of 43 magnetic observatories on the 1930 - 1980 interval. The angles of inclination of the piece-wise-linear approximation of the secular variation curves are used as the initial data. Comparison with independent data has shown the high accuracy of the models obtained. It turned out that 1947 and 1957 are also the epochs of jerks; the 1947 jerk was similar overall to the 1969 jerk, but the jump in the acceleration had the opposite sign.
