Geomagnetic Field: Secular Variations

An integrated approach to the division of the activity of secular geomagnetic variations into drift (kinematic activity) and nondrift (dynamic activity) is proposed. This has permitted quantitatively comparing activity due to variation of the intensity of the field sources and their drift. It is shown that kinematic activity correlates with the variation of the earth's rotational velocity, whereas the dynamic activity correlates with solar activity.
