We consider a model of grand unified cosmic strings coupled to the Weinberg-Salam model. When the string is superconducting we show that the electroweak symmetry is restored around the string out to a radius r0 ~gI/2πMWMH. The presence of an ordinary cosmic string also leads to electroweak symmetry restoration, but in a much smaller region, r0 <= MH-1.
