Two stars, CD-31 deg 622 and JL 76, recently classified photometrically
as DC white dwarfs, have been investigated spectroscopically. It is
shown that the first star is an extremely metal-deficient subdwarf at a
distance of 90 pc and JL 76 is an early main-sequence B star with an M
giant companion, if it is a physical binary.
