A critical evaluation of the available 10 Be data shows that its concentration of marine sediments appears to be affected by climate, cosmic ray (C.R.) intensity variations, magnetic reversals and changes in sedimentation rates in that order. Possible variations in the C.R. intensity would have averaged ±30% for selected periods of the order of 10 5 yr during the last 2 m.y.
