The charged particles from the breakup of the 7Li nucleus following π- capture have been identified in coincidence through a measurement of their energy loss and total energy. A detailed study of the triton energy spectra revealed strong evidence for a particle unstable 4H state. The energy of this resonance was found to be 8+/-3 MeV above the unbound triton-neutron mass with a width of Γ < 4 MeV. The branching ratios for the reactions ? are both 1 × 10-4.
