A recently proposed framework to study loop production from a single infinite cosmic string in flat space-time by path-integral methods is worked out in detail by imposing a gaussian ansatz for the random string distribution. The constraints required by the general framework are satisfied approximately. The equations of motion for the two-point correlation functions are postulated to define the time evolution of the whole system. By an appropriate normalization, an improved version of the model is achieved. It is expected to mimic the essential features of the realistic case.
