The authors consider the motion of a string with fixed ends, under the influence of a plane monochromatic gravitational wave. The gravitational interaction is treated perturbatively and by choosing an appropriate orthonormal gauge the equations of motion are simplified to a large extent. A resonant phenomenon is observed. The authors suggest that the string may be used as a detector for gravitational waves.
