A Monte Carlo approach using three panchromatic plates is used here to obtain the characteristics of the dust ejection and time-averaged size distribution of the dust tail of Comet P/Halley. It is found that the dust grain number reproduction rate varies as r exp -3.8 +/- 0.7 and achieves its top value at true anomaly 80 postperihelion. The power indices of the dust size distribution are -3.22 (+/- 0.36) and -3.71 (+/- 0.22) for grains smaller and greater than 7.3 microns g/cu cm, respectively. The dust grain velocity attains its maximum value of 0.46 (+/- 0.23) km/s generally postperihelion. The power index of the size dependence of the dust grain velocity is -0.25 (+/- 0.10), far from the -0.5 value predicted by classical models of dust-gas interaction in the inner coma. A distinct sunward anisotropy of dust production is found.
