There exists a group of persistently faint galactic X-ray sources that, based on characteristics such as location in the galaxy, high Lx/Lopt, association with X-ray bursts, absence of X-ray pulsations and similar characteristics are thought to be low-mass X-ray binaries but about which very little is known. These objects have low Lx and most have not been optically identified. We propose to observe a sample of these sources with ACIS in modes and with exposure times tailored to obtain an arcsecond position, and to measure a good X-ray spectrum and a good power spectrum. This will extend our knowledge about the physics of accretion onto compact objects towards lower accretion rates than previously accessible.
