The sources and mechanisms which generate discrete arc and inverted-V precipitations, and the electron distribution functions for these precipitations are investigated. The high latitude arc precipitation, low latitude hard electron precipitation, pulsating electron precipitation, and diffuse precipitation of the morning side aurora are studied. The relationship between polar cap electron precipitation and IMF is analyzed. The transverse acceleration of ions which results in ion conics and the distributions of upward and downward flowing ion beams are described. The concentrations of upward flowing thermal ions in the polar wind are examined.
