Solutions for monochromatic radiative transfer are developed theoretically for the case of a source with variable position and direction in a homogeneous plane-parallel medium. The solutions are developed using a technique based on parameter variation. The solutions are derived for both the formally exact method of elementary solutions and the P sub N method.
