A model of the displaced equatorial-neutral sheet (DEN) surface has been developed. It is a continuous surface consisting of the geomagnetic equatorial plane and a displaced neutral sheet, optimized in the region of the ISEE-1 and -2 satellites within the magnetopause (in the range of 10 to -22 Re). The DEN surface divides the geomagnetotail cross-section into two parts of equal areas, and is similar to Fairfield's displaced neutral sheet model in the region less than -35 Re. The parameters of the DEN surfaces are determined using the measurements of the reversal region (where Bxgsm is equal to zero), observed aboard the ISEE-2 satellite (January 1-June 30, 1978) outside the dipole field region. The DEN surface varies with the tilt angle of the geomagnetic dipole. When the tilt angle is positive, the DEN surface has a rather complicated geometric configuration on the nightside: it rises at the central part, but sinks at the flank near the magnetopause. The inverse holds when the tilt angle is negative.
