High pressure experiments and thermodynamic calculations have explored
the pattern of phase equilibria in the system CaCO 3 -H 2 O with
particular emphasis on the phase CaCO 3 .H 2 O. The data suggest that
CaCO 3 .H 2 O is unstable with respect to argonite plus water everywhere
in the region considered (0-140°C and 1 bar-20 kb).
