Numerical solutions are proposed for the basic equations of finite-amplitude convection in a compressible medium with polytropic structure within the framework of a one-mode anelastic approximation. Only the case of nonself-interacting square or rectangular planforms is considered where the effects of viscous dissipation are disregarded. The numerical solution of these equations illustrates the effects of compressibility and density stratification on the flow pattern and on the thermodynamic variables and their fluctuations.
