Vertically directed quasistatic electric fields of 3-7 mV m-1 and magnetic field pulsations with amplitude 3 nT at frequencies of the order of 1 Hz have been observed on the Intercosmos-Bulgaria-1300 satellite in the near-equatorial ionosphere over an earthquake centre (φ* = 3.39°S and λ* = 177.43°E, M = 4.8) on 21 January 1982
