Forbidden O III line fluxes in 17 FRII radiogalaxies were obtained in order to study the relations between radio and forbidden emission-line luminosities in an unbiased sample of 39 FRIIs with z of less than 0.5. For these objects, an empirical link is found between the 178-MHz total luminosity and both the forbidden O III 4959/5007 line luminosity and the 5-GHz luminosity of the radio central component. The relative strengths of these correlations suggest that the narrow-line region is photoionized from a central source which is physically distinct from the radiojets.
