A description is given of the use of gravitational lensing to map dark matter. The simulation of gravitational distortion by background galaxies by tracing rays through different realistic models of foreground clusters is addressed, as is the inverse problem of approximating the lensing mass distribution from the background distortion. The latter is illustrated in the case of Abell 1689.
