Results are reported for a center-to-limb observational study of the solar lithium feature at 6707.8 A. The observational technique is described along with observations required for a detailed analysis of the solar Li I lines, including the continuum location, the contribution of atmospheric lines, the precise position of the Li I resonance doublet in the solar spectrum for Li-7 and Li-6, and possible blends with molecular lines. Decomposition of the solar spectrum around the 6707-A line indicates that the lithium feature contains at least four components, whose central intensities and equivalent widths are listed. It is shown that lithium is definitely present in the solar spectrum, telluric lines do not affect the feature, and the presence of CN appreciably affects the apparent Li wavelengths but contributes only a little to the equivalent width of the feature.
