A broad description of the earth's atmosphere is given, with special
emphasis on the region above 150 km in altitude. The effects of solar
radiation on the atmosphere are considered. The heating of the various
atmospheric regions, the processes of mixing and diffusion, and the
variations of density, temperature, and composition are discussed.
