At its 24th meeting, held in Hamburg on December 5/6, 1974, the
Council of ESO confirmed the appointment of Professor Lodewijk
Woltjer as Director-General of the Organization. Professor Woltjer
succeeded Professor A. Blaauw in this office on January 1, 1975 for a
five-year term.
