The concept of early and late stages (ES and LS) of gamma-ray bursts is implemented for the statistical analysis of the large sample of BATSE events. The primary peak is proposed to be the boundary between the early and late stages of emission. Significant differences are found between ES and LS: the early stage is shorter than the late one, it has the harder emission, and it becomes shorter in respect to all burst time histories for groups with decreasing intensity. .
