Physical properties and measurements of the Jovian ring system are presented. The bright ring has an outer radius of 1.81 + or - 0.01 Jovian radii and an inner radius of 1.72 + or - 0.01 Jovian radii, with an eccentricity not greater than 0.003 and a normal optical depth of .00003. The faint sheet extending from the inner edge of the bright ring to the planet's surface has an optical depth of 7 x 10 to the 6th. Evidence is given which indicates that a halo of material envelops the rings and extends 10,000 km above the ring plane. A model is developed which accounts for the halo by means of interactions between the Jovian magnetic field and the charged ring particles, and the source of the small particles with diameters less than 0.5 micron is discussed.
