Preliminary results of a survey of Pi2's observed along a meridional chain of stations are presented. The technique of complex demodulation is used in the analysis to give instantaneous values of amplitude, phase and polarization parameters. From a statistical study carried out at each station features such as a minimum in H-amplitude, a corresponding secondary maximum in H, and a polarization reversal are observed. Phase characteristics are also discussed and all the results compared with those from previous studies. Individual events are also studied using complex demodulation mapping and the results compared with the statistical analysis. Two features observed, the polarization reversal and the minimum in H-amplitude, are related to the average position of the plasmapause for moderate magnetic conditions. It is shown that the polarization reversal is due to a change in H-phase across the plasmapause. A brief discussion of the possible causes of the mid-latitude characteristics of Pi2's is given.
