Two techniques are described to validate the video tape record of a lunar flash obtained by a single observer monitoring the dark side of the waxing Moon during a meteor shower. Displacing the video camera from the perfect focus, a disk or an annulus of light is recorded with a refractor or a reflector, respectively, only if it is the image of a real lunar flash. Inserting a spectroscope between the telescope objective and the video camera the spectrum of the flash light is recorded which may give useful informations about the chemistry and the physics of the event. Spurious flashes, normally due to cosmic rays or to camera noise, do not change their aspect in out of focus images nor in the dispersed ray beam.
