The authors show how, based on the presently observed large-scale form of the galaxy two-point spatial correlation function ξ(τ), a very simplified model for the linear P(k) can be constructed and tested with N-body simulations. The results reproduce quite well and in a self-consistent way the observed form and amplitude of galaxy clustering, providing in addition a rather realistic value for the small-scale pairwise velocity dispersion σ1d.
