Luminosity functions in the directions of the north and south galactic poles were derived by applying the Luyten mean absolute magnitude method to data from the galactic polar proper motion surveys by Luyten. The objective was to detect any differences between the luminosity functions at the north and south galactic poles. Both these luminosity functions were found to be consistent with the Luyten 1968 luminosity function and no significant difference between them was found.
