Lunar and planetary data in the form of line-of-sight (LOS) components cannot be used for conventional geophysical modelling, and current methods for the inversion of LOS data yield nonunique or poorly constrained results as well as results with low spatial resolution. An alternative method for the use of LOS data is presented which is predicated on the fact that three noncoplanar LOS acceleration vectors, determined at different times at some point of observation, uniquely define the total acceleration vector at that point. The method is in principle applicable to lunar as well as planetary LOS data, and promises unique, detailed and reliable results.
