The authors present new results concerning evolutionary populations of AGN, computed following the approach proposed by them recently: a continuity equation for the epoch-dependent luminosity function, with driving factors that represent different fueling modes for the primary gravitational energy source. The authors compute integral observables (number counts, luminosity distributions) and the evolution functions, to be compared with the data and their free-form or parametric syntheses. Among the simplest models, the authors find that - rather than a pure luminosity evolution - non-uniform dimming faster at higher L and preceded by a brightening phase provides a better representation of the QSO population over an extended era.
