The designs of a three and a two mirror ultraviolet telescope with and without a corrector are discussed. Within the wavelength range around 20 nm, the expected optical image quality ( 10 arcsec) suggests that a cassegrain mounting with a focal corrector is best. The main optical characteristics and performances of the selected design are given. Difficulties in the figuring and the control of the primary parabolic mirror (F/1.45) are mentioned as well as laboratory measurements of the point spread function. The thermal environment, shocks and vibrations induced by the guidance system are identified as the major constraints on the mechanical structure.
