Operator splitting and direct time integration of the ideal MHD equations are compared by using a finite difference flux-corrected transport method. The comparison is made for impulsively generated nonlinear waves in a coronal plasma. It suggests that operator splitting and direct time integration both lead to physically acceptable results and provide a good agreement with results obtained with the fast Fourier transform method.
