The REM (Rapid Eye Mount) observatory was built by a consortium of Italian and international (5%) Institutes in order to have a robotic and fast observing response to GRB alerts. It is located in the Southern Hemisphere (Chile) and can react in 30 sec to a GCN alert. It also allocate time for secondary science proposals and room for future instrumentation.
