The anomalous heating of the electron gas of the polar E-region during strong magnetospheric convection can considerably reduce the effective recombination coefficient. This, in turn, leads to an increase in the electron density if a constant ion production rate is assumed and density transport is neglected. An increase of electron density, however, means in increase in ionospheric conduction. Quantitative calculations are presented which show that the increase in the Hall conductivity can be a factor of 2.3, and in the Pedersen conductivity a factor of 2, if a 100 mV/m dc electric field is assumed. The changes in height integrated conductivities, also computed in the paper, could have some significance for modeling magnetospheric-ionospheric interaction.
