The decisions made in the design of the data format for ACS images are described. The ACS file formats will use FITS with extensions, as has been introduced for STIS and NICMOS. The packaging of the data products is also described. The Science Headers are heavily modelled on the STIS imaging headers, and prototype headers for WFC, HRC and SBC imaging and HRC acquisitions are presented.
