The magnetite spectrum in Fig. 3 of A. L. Sprague and T. L. Roush (1998, Icarus 133, 174-183) is of hematite, not magnetite. Regardless, magnetite has no diagnostic fundamental or transparency bands within the spectral range of their Mercury telescopic data; therefore, they should not conclude the absence or paucity of magnetite on Mercury on the basis of the spectral region 7.5 to 12 μm alone.
