Comet Hartley 2 has been an indistinct green object in the night skies, but NASA's EPOXI mission has taken close-up images of its bright, dumbbell-shaped nucleus with jets of material leaving the surface.
The Odin satellite, a collaborative project led by Sweden and involving Canada, Finland and France, observed Comet Hartley 2 and found a strong water line at 556.9 GHz in its spectrum.
