Several refinements are made in a recently proposed relaxation theory of Stark broadening by ion perturbers. The number of required field-dependent functions is reduced from two to one. The assumption of non-interacting, screened quasi-particles allows the many perturber average to be reduced to a one-particle average within the validity of the theory. In addition, a closely related alternative formulation is presented which has some calculational advantages.
