In the present paper, the time profiles of electron fluxes with energies between 0.3 and 3 MeV in the transition region, constructed from Prognoz-4 data for January through February 1976, are analyzed. Differential electron energy spectra are obtained for several parts of the transition region. The value of the spectral index is found to vary from 1.6 in interplanetary space to 4.3 in the proximity of the magnetosphere. The time profiles of the electron fluxes are broken down into regions where the spectral index increases smoothly from 1.6 to 4.3 and regions characterized by intense electron bursts (in the transition region). Differential spectra of the electron bursts are obtained, and the nature of the bursts is discussed.
