In AO-3 we started a quasi-simultaneous X-ray/optical spectroscopy observation programme of changing type Seyfert galaxies, with the aim of investigating the origin of the apparent X-ray/optical type mismatches seen in some AGN. We use these type-changing AGN to test whether this mismatch is caused by non-simultaneity between the X-ray and optical observations or it is due to intrinsic properties of the Broad Line Region, as suggested by our previous work. In this proposal we request XMM-Newton observations of a sample of 5 targets (in addition to that already performed in AO-3). Quasi-simultaneous and delayed optical spectroscopy of these targets will also be obtained from the ground.
