Magnetic activity in cool stars is intimately linked to rotation. X-ray emission increases with rotation until it peaks (saturates) at rotation periods of under ~1.6days in stars of 1M_solar. At the extremes of stellar rotation, X-ray emission is observed to decline (super-saturate). There are several conflicting explanations of the phenomena of X-ray saturation and super-saturation. A recent X-ray study of the super-saturated star VXR45a shows a higher level of rotational modulation than has been found in studies of saturated stars. We propose to test different theories of X-ray saturation and super-saturation by observing V660 Tau, a star with a similar rotation rate to VXR45a but a higher X-ray luminosity level.
