In order to explore the effect of a new variable governing the magnetic activity of stars, viz., the presence of giant planets, we propose a set of snapshot observations of a carefully selected sample of stars using XMM-Newton's imaging detectors for a total of 135 ksec. Our sample includes stars with extremely close-in Extrasolar Giant Planets (EGPs), with orbital radii less than 0.15 AU, as well as a control group of stars with EGPs at relatively farther distances (orbital radii greater than 2 AU). With these observations, we will be able to characterize and quantify the effect of close-in EGPs on stellar coronae.
