The dynamical effects of spatially homogeneous electromagnetic fields on anistropic Bianchi types I, IX, V, and VIIH are studied. The Lagrangians and Hamiltons affecting the evolution of anisotropy (including the gravitational and electromagnetic potentials) are obtained for very general spatially homogeneous metrics by means of Arnowitt, Deser, and Misner Hamiltonian formalism. for Bianchi type IX models having diagonal metrics an exact solution for the electromagnetic fields was obtained. This solution allowed a qualitative solution for the gravitational variables. The total solution is similar to that of Brill. A qualitative discussion of electromagnetic Bianchi types I and IX is presented, and a modified Lagrangian density which yields the correct field equations for Bianchi type class B models is derived. This modified Lagrangian density is used to obtain the Hamiltonians (including the gravitational and electromagnetic potentials) for Bianchi types V and VIIH with diagonal metrics.
