Attention is called to evidence suggesting that quasars are active nuclei of galaxies, most of which formed at z approximately 2.5 when the age of the universe was 1000-2000 Myr. During the same period of time, the intergalactic gas should have formed in clusters, with an Fe abundance three times lower than that of oxygen. It is contended here that the evolution time of the stars responsible for the synthesis of Fe nuclei (apparently type 1 supernovas SN1) should be approximately 1500 Myr and that their masses should be small, approximately 1.7-1.5 solar mass.
