High-quality granulation photographs are used to study the power spectrum and rms-value of solar granular intensity fluctuations. Telescope, aberrations and atmospheric seeing were the system modulation transfer functions used to correct the observed power spectrum, assuming different contributions of the atmospheric seeing. This procedure permitted the derivation of upper and lower limits for the true granular intensity fluctuation power spectrum. The rms-value derived from the power spectrum is 7.2-12% at 550 nm, with a most probable value of 10.5%. The validity of the upper limit was checked by application of a modulation transfer function to the data, leading to an rms-value of 13.4%. It is concluded that the true rms-value of the granular intensity fluctuations does not exceed 13% and 550 nm.
