The ICARUS detector, a 3000 t liquid Argon TPC with unique imaging and calorimetric capabilities, will allow for a rich physics programme, covering atmospheric, solar and supernova neutrinos, nucleon decay and neutrino oscillations with the CERN to Gran Sasso neutrino beam. The successful operation of a 600 ton module and the ongoing analysis of the recorded cosmic ray show the excellent performance of this detector, and opens the way to constructing very massive high quality detectors. This module will be moved to Gran Sasso where the first underground physics run is planned to start within 2005.
